Background: There are recent evidence of sleep-dependent changes in olfactory system structure and function which contribute to odor memory perception. Objective: The aim the present study is effect elimination mucosa on electrical activity hippocampus, bulb, tubercle, pyriform cortex frontal during wakefulness sleep. Methodology: Fifteen adult armadillos chronically prepared for electrographic recordings were employed this study. Some animals subjected peripheral deafferentation by removal mucosa. They studied sleep phases. Results: lack input causes invasion all structures mentioned very conspicuous almost continuous bursts high amplitude gamma (32 Hz) slow wave paradoxical Conclusions: together with some participates an outstanding phenomenon produced suppression receptors. appearance sharp contrast other published studies because it entirely independent from input. relevance discussed considering so called non functions bulb participation hippocampus emotion, learning memory. importance studying effects emphasized view possible derivations interest interpretation pathological conditions. significance these findings discussed.
